A man from Reading has been jailed after he stole a car and drove dangerously in Basingstoke.

22 year old Jack Hands, of Staverton Road, stole a silver Mercedes car from Sarum Hill and hit four parked cars on Diana Close on Saturday 31 January.

Hampshire Police found the car and an investigation was launched. Hands was arrested on the 26th of February and later charged.

He pleaded guilty to robbery and driving a motor vehicle dangerously and was jailed for two years and eight months at Winchester Crown Court.

Basingstoke Inspector Jim Gallimore said: “Jack Hands’ actions that day were incredibly dangerous and reckless.

“Not only did he steal a car, but he also drove in a dangerous manner which could have had far worse consequences.

“I hope this result reassures the public that we take reports like this incredibly seriously and we will do all we can to ensure those who commit crimes within our communities face the consequences of their actions.”
