Behind anonymous gates beside a set of traffic lights near Theale in west Berkshire most motorists sat in their cars unaware they were outside the home of a recording artist who'd sold more than 100 million records worldwide.

From the mid-nineties through to 2011 Kate Bush lived behind the gates alongside the river Kennet with her husband guitarist Danny McIntosh.

The grade-II listed house which dates back to 1800 was situated on a 22-acre plot of land which included several out-buildings one of which she had converted into recording and dance studios.

She moved there during a break from the music industry that came after the huge success of 'The Red Shoes' album in 1993.

It was at her home in Berkshire that she brought up her son Bertie who was born in 1998 and where she worked on her first album after a 12 year hiatus - 'Aerial'. The album was released in 2005 to great critical acclaim and birdsong used on the album was recorded in her garden.

After she moved away in 2011 the new owners of the house and grounds carried out extensive renovations and remodelling including restoration work on a former watermill near to the main house.

Now the property is back on the market for £11.5million and a series of pictures from the selling agents show just how beautiful the property is.

No one really knows much about her time at Shenfield Mill but the length of her stay and the fact it was where she brought up her son indicate it was a happy period of her life in a place that provided the privacy she's always valued so highly.
