Thousands expected at new Hampshire air show
The Hampshire Air Festival will take place at Thruxton in September
Organisers of the Hampshire Air Festival say they hope to attract up to 10,000 people to Thruxton airfield in September.
A two-year deal has been struck with the owners of the race track and airfield complex and its hoped the air show will fill the gap left by the troubled Bournemouth air festival. The giant south coast show didn't take place last year after the local authority pulled their funding. So far there are no plans for it to take place this year.
The theme of the Hampshire Air Festival will be 'age of flight' and amongst other attractions expect plenty of Spitfires as the iconic World War Two fighter celebrates its 90th anniversary this year.
There'll also be an evening show with drones, pyro-aircraft and a fireworks display.
Organisers are busy inviting aircraft to the event including displays from the RAF - such as the Red Arrows, Typhoon and Battle of Britain memorial flight. None of these aircraft are guaranteed and their attendance or otherwise won't be known for a few months yet.
