Firefighters continue efforts to control large heathland fire in Camberley
Emergency services work to extinguish hotspots and keep the area safe
Firefighters from Hampshire and neighbouring Surrey remain on the scene of a significant heathland fire in Blackwater, Camberley, as efforts continue to fully extinguish the blaze and ensure the area is safe.
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service (HIWFRS) received the first emergency call shortly after 1:30pm on 11th July, responding swiftly to tackle the fire, which initially spread to about 10 hectares.
Crews from Basingstoke, Rushmoor, Hartley Wintney, and other local stations, supported by Surrey Fire and Rescue, have been using hose reels, water carriers, and specialist wildfire units to contain and control the fire.
Police have implemented road closures around the affected area, urging the public to avoid the vicinity to enable emergency services to operate safely and effectively.
Efforts persisted overnight and into the early hours of 12th July, with firefighters focusing on damping down hotspots and maintaining fire breaks.
HIWFRS plans to maintain a presence at the scene throughout the day to monitor any remaining hotspots and safeguard the affected area.
The community is urged to respect road closures and stay clear of the area until it is declared safe.
