Crews tackle large field fire in Wokingham
Firefighters worked for several hours to control the blaze
Firefighters from multiple stations have been dealing with a significant field fire in Wokingham.
The Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service dispatched crews to Part Lane in Swallowfield shortly after 11am on Thursday (20 August).
Crews were sent from Theale, Wokingham Road, Bracknell, Caversham Road, Maidenhead and Windsor stations, along with an offroad vehicle from Crowthorne Fire Station, the Zetros water carrier from Bracknell Fire Station, and three officers to handle the emergency.
Additional support came from an offroad vehicle from Surrey Fire and Rescue Service and one officer from Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service.
Upon arrival, crews were faced with a fire burning through approximately four hectares of grass and scrubland.
Firefighters utilised multiple hose reel jets, the Zetros, and the two offroad vehicles to extinguish the blaze and dampen down the area, spending about three hours and 50 minutes on the operation.
Residents are advised to stay clear of the area while firefighters manage the aftermath.
