A body has been recovered from the river near the Hambridge area of West Berkshire.
Thames Valley Police say they believe it is 34-year-old Dean Hill from Newbury, who was reported missing almost two years ago.
Dean, who lived in North Sydmonton, four miles south of Newbury, was last seen at the Starting Gate pub in Speen at around 9pm on Saturday 11 November 2023.
He did not return home that weekend, and his family reported him missing shortly afterwards.
Detective Inspector Stuart Streeter said: “Sadly following calls from a member of the public, officers have recovered a body from the water, which we believe is missing man Dean.
“Our thoughts remain with the family of Mr Hill, who have been informed of the discovery.
“At this time the death is being treated as unexplained and the coroner has been informed.”
Formal identification has not yet taken place.
