Man exposed himself and pushed woman into canal - Newbury
Police are appealing for witnesses after the incident by the River Kennet
Police are looking for witnesses after a man exposed himself and pushed a woman into a canal in Newbury.
At 5.30pm on Tuesday (15 July) a man was seen indecently exposing himself on the towpath of the River Kennet, alongside Toomers Wharf and opposite the Canal Bar.
He then kicked a woman in her sixties, causing her to fall into the canal. She was assisted out of the canal and did not sustain any serious injuries.
Police who attended the incident were also assaulted by the man.
A 35-year-old man from Leicestershire has been arrested on suspicion of indecent exposure, assault, outraging public decency, racially/religiously aggravated intentional harassment/alarm/distress, and four counts of assault of an emergency worker.
He remains in police custody at the current time.
Investigating officer, Police Constable Ryan Tench, said: “I am appealing to anybody who witnessed this incident to please get in touch.
“We believe the towpath was busy at the time of the offence and that there are a number of people who will have seen what happened who have not yet spoken to police.
“We have made an arrest in connection with this incident and our enquiries continue today."
