Last updated 7th Jan 2026
Emergency services were called to two separate vehicle crashes at Sutton Seeds Roundabout in Earley on Wednesday, 7th January.
South Central Ambulance Service reported a collision involving a school coach and a Reading bus that led to the bus catching fire. Nine children on the school coach, along with the coach driver, sustained minor injuries, while eight adults from the Reading bus were also reported to have minor injuries.
Initially, only two patients—one child and one adult—were identified as potentially needing hospital treatment. Both have since been taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital, one by ambulance and the other by rapid response vehicle.
Three children and three adults are still being assessed at the scene for minor injuries, according to South Central Ambulance Service. Ten of the injured individuals have already been discharged.
A separate crash involving two cars occurred at the same roundabout but resulted in no injuries, ambulance officials said.
Fire crews extinguish bus fire
Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that at 8:25am, they received reports of a bus fire on the A3290 exit slip road near the roundabout.
Firefighters from Wokingham Road and Wokingham fire stations attended the scene, alongside two officers. Crews discovered road traffic collisions involving the bus and coach, with the bus engine on fire.
The fire was extinguished, and firefighters provided immediate emergency care to those injured before handing over responsibilities to South Central Ambulance Service teams.
Fire crews remained on site for approximately two hours and 17 minutes.
South Central Ambulance Service deployed their Hazardous Area Response Team (HART), an ambulance, and a paramedic team leader in a rapid response vehicle to help manage the situation.
HART teams are continuing assessments of the six remaining patients at the scene.
