Delivery drivers illegal parking in Bracknell town centre hotspots
Bracknell Forest Council made £81,000 on Penalty Charge Notices last year
Bracknell Forest Council says many parking fines dished out in the town centre are to delivery drivers.
Freedom of Information data revealed the council made £81,000 on Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) last year, with many of the top ten locations with the most parking fines being in the town centre.
These include the Avenue car park, The Ring, Service Yards at the Lexicon and Market Street.
But the top spot went to The Look Out, where 1,173 PCNs were handed out last year, making the council £26,019.61.
The full list is as follows:
The Look Out, 1,173 tickets, £26,019.61
The Avenue Car Park, 972 tickets, £13,809.29
The Ring, 753 tickets, £9,120
Service Yard H, 430 tickets, £2,948.21
Weather Way Surface car park, 392 tickets, £8,286.06
Access to Service Yard D, 361 tickets, £6,330
Bracknell Leisure Centre, 361 tickets, £2,460
Market Street Service Yard, 258 tickets, £8,085
Market Street, 158 tickets, £3,231.72
The Oaks, 112 tickets, £1,280
Damien James, assistant director of contract services, said the number of PCNs issued in these ten locations have been ‘broadly the same’ in the last five years.
But there is an exception with Bracknell Leisure Centre, where parking enforcement was only introduced last year.
In this year, 361 tickets were handed out, raising a total of £2,460.
Mr James said: “In some town centre locations identified, the illegal parking relates to delivery drivers parking in no parking areas, on double yellow lines and in loading bays.”
This is in reference to numbers four and six on the list, Service Yard H and Access to Service Yard D, which are used to access points in the Lexicon Shopping centre.
The assistant director said town centre daily tariffs are reviewed annually and are in line with the costs in neighbouring boroughs.
Income received from PCNs are used to offset contract costs for the delivery of parking services across Bracknell Forest.
