Police use stolen i-pad to catch Bracknell burglar
Tracking tech leads police to burglar
A man has been jailed for a burglary in Bracknell.
Tyler Scott-Wright, aged 24, of Warmwell Close, Poole, Dorset, was sentenced to three years in prison at Reading Crown Court on Monday (23/1).
The jury found him guilty of one count of dwelling burglary at the same hearing after a trial.
At around 2.35am on 14 February 2021, Scott-Wright entered a property in the Birch Hill area of Bracknell while the occupants, two adults and two young children, were sleeping.
The adults awoke having heard sounds of movement downstairs.
Initially thinking the sounds must have been from one of the children, the victim looked up to find Scott-Wright standing in the bedroom doorway.
The defendant demanded money from the victims while holding a knife towards them before leaving.
Items stolen from the address included a TV, passports, a wallet and an iPad.
Officers tracked the iPad to Scott-Wright’s home address where he was found lying in bed with the stolen items scattered around him along with a knife.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Kelly Turner said:
“I, along with the victim, am happy with the sentence given by the courts.
“This incident has made a significant lasting impact upon the victims’ lives, especially their children.
“No one should be made to feel unsafe while within their own home.
“Thames Valley Police is committed to bringing burglars to justice as it is an incredibly invasive crime.
“Tyler Scott-Wright’s sentencing will hopefully serve a lesson to others who seek to commit burglaries that we will investigate and look to put offenders before the courts.”
