Free bike safety check ups offered in Reading
Clinics will be held across the town
Families are being offered the chance to get their bikes checked over for the summer holidays.
The Dr Bike team will be travelling around Reading to offer free bike maintenance checks, basic fixes and give safety tips between Monday 30 June and Thursday 10 July.
The free sessions support the Council’s aim to encourage more people to cycle to help reduce air pollution and improve the health and wellbeing of Reading residents.
Members of the Avanti Cycling team will be holding pop-up sessions where they will tune-up bicycles, undertake free minor repairs and diagnose more complex issues. No appointment is necessary.
The sessions are:
Monday 30 June: South Reading Leisure Centre, 4.30-6.30pm
Thursday 3 July: Outside Sainsbury’s, Broad Street, 11am-2pm
Thursday 3 July: Dee Space community centre, 4.30-6.30pm
Friday 4 July: Coley Park Community Centre, 4.30-6.30pm
Monday 7 July: Rivermead Leisure Centre, 4.30-6.30pm
Thursday 10 July: Southcote Community Centre, 4.30-6.30pm
Opportunity
Cllr John Ennis, Lead Councillor for Climate Strategy and Transport, said:
“This is a great opportunity for families to have their bikes checked out to make sure they are fully ready for a summer of cycling.
“The expert Avanti Cycling team will tune-up bicycles, carry out free basic repairs and give general advice about cycling in Reading.
“Dr Bike sessions are very popular in the town centre and these pop-up events in the community will be really convenient for families to drop into with no appointment necessary.”
