Police are appealing for witnesses following a car theft in Basingstoke

They received a report at 12.27pm on Friday 12 January that a silver Skoda Superb was stolen from Carpenters Down, Basingstoke.

Officers spotted the vehicle travelling south on the A339 Kingsclere Road but the driver failed to stop and a pursuit commenced along the A339, Rooksdown Lane, Nightingale Gardens, Florence Way, Gillies Drive, Rooksdown Avenue, Rooksdown roundabout, Roman Road, Wellington Terrace and Ashwood Way before the car was abandoned in Winklebury Way.

Members of the public waved police in the direction of two males who escaped on foot.

Police seized the car and two males from Basingstoke, aged 20 and 27, were arrested nearby on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving without a licence, driving without insurance and drug driving. They have since been released under investigation.

Police would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the pursuit, and also the members of the public that waved down police at the end of the pursuit so we can take their statements.
