Teenager arrested on suspicion of drug driving in Basingstoke

The 19-year-old has been released from custody after the incident

A teenage boy has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving during a stop in Basingstoke.

Officers from Hampshire Police were carrying out patrols around the Basingstoke area when they found a man was seen acting suspiciously at around 12:10am on Wednesday (September 24th).

The man, who had been driving a white Ford Ka at speed through Popley Way was eventually stopped by officers on the nearby Pershore Road.

After discerning the boy was acting in a suspicious manner, the car was stopped and searched by officers.

He was later found to have suspected cannabis, which was later confirmed by a drug swipe of the car.

Police confirmed that an 19-year-old boy from the Basingstoke area had been arrested on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit and possessing a controlled drug of Class B.

The teenager has since been released from custody by officers while enquiries into the incident continue.
