Fire at Ascot landfill site

A significant fire broke out at a landfill site on St George’s Lane in Ascot.

Flames broke out on Wednesday ( 16 July), prompting a large-scale response from fire crews across Berkshire and Surrey.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 7:39pm.

On arrival, crews discovered a large waste fire, which is currently under control and contained. However, firefighting operations are still ongoing.

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service deployed teams from Windsor, Slough, Crowthorne, Mortimer, Ascot, Wokingham, Caversham Road, and Langley fire stations. They were supported by specialist units including the Incident Command Unit from Maidenhead, the Zetros Water Carrier from Bracknell, and the Aerial Ladder Platform and Operational Support Unit from Whitley Wood. Six senior officers were also dispatched to the scene.

In addition, two crews and one officer from Surrey Fire and Rescue Service assisted in the response effort.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the blaze, and residents in the area are advised to stay clear of the site while emergency crews continue their work.
