Royal Berkshire Hospital welcomes pioneering robot to help arthritis patients
The Reading hospital has become the first in the UK to use the innovative technology, which could help speed up appointments and improve patient care.
There's a new addition to the team at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading — and his name is ARTHUR!
The hospital has become the first in the UK to use the robotic ultrasound system, designed to help assess patients with rheumatoid arthritis.
ARTHUR uses ultrasound technology to scan joints in patients' hands and wrists, producing detailed images to help healthcare professionals assess the condition.
It's hoped the technology will make appointments more efficient and give medical staff more time to focus on patient care.
And ARTHUR isn't the only robot making headlines at the hospital.
Another robot, called Genie, has also been trialled at the Royal Berkshire. Designed to support patients, Genie can remind people to take medication, encourage them to drink water, check how they're feeling and even put Netflix on!
While the two robots have very different jobs, both highlight how new technology is being explored to support patients and healthcare staff in Berkshire.
