Man arrested after home assault in Basingstoke

Officers investigating reports of an assault inside a Basingstoke address have made an arrest.

Police received a report that a man in his 30s has been assaulted inside a property on Charles Street at around 9pm on 31 March.

It was reported the victim had been punched a number of times and threatened with a knife by a man known to him.

The victim suffered minor injuries to his head and lip.

A number of items, including a TV and lamp, were damaged.

Officers launched an investigation and arrested a man last night (10 April).

A 42-year-old man from Basingstoke has been arrested on suspicion of:

• Assault a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm

• Threaten a person with an offensive weapon / bladed article / corrosive substance in a private place

• Threat to damage / destroy property

• Criminal damage

• Theft

He remains in custody while enquiries continue.
