The northbound carriageway of the A33 Swallowfield bypass south of Reading will be closed from 8pm tonight (Tuesday, 9 December) until 6am and again tomorrow night.

Wokingham borough council is to carry out a temporary repair on a crack that has appeared along about 1km of the inside lane (pictured above), which has been shut for safety reasons.

The closure is between the Hampshire boundary and Mereoak Lane, with a diversion via Odiham Road, B3349 Basingstoke Road and Basingstoke Road.

A Wokingham Borough Council spokesperson said:

"Apologies for the short notice while we finalised some details and thank you for your patience while we carry out these essential works.

"To find a permanent solution, we've taken samples from the road and will analyse them to identify exactly what we need to do next."
