A 14-year-old boy has been arrested after a teenage boy was assaulted last night in Basingstoke.

Police were called last night (Tuesday 20 January) at around 9:04pm to reports that a 15-year-old boy had been assaulted at the bus station near Festival Place.

He was taken to hospital to receive treatment after suffering facial injuries.

A teenager was then arrested at the scene following a short foot chase.

A number of officers were assaulted during and after the arrest, while some were subjected to racial abuse.

A 14-year-old boy from Basingstoke has been arrested on suspicion of:

  • Attempt to cause grievous bodily harm with intent to do grievous bodily harm
  • Assault a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm x 2
  • Assault by beating of an emergency worker x 8
  • Racially / religiously aggravated intentional harassment / alarm / distress – words / writing

He remains in custody while our enquiries continue.
