Wycombe Wanderers sign experienced goalkeeper Joe Wildsmith
Wycombe say Wildsmith is available for Saturday’s clash with Reading
Wycombe Wanderers have strengthened their goalkeeping options with the signing of free agent Joe Wildsmith.
The 30-year-old goalkeeper has linked up with the Chairboys after agreeing a move to the League One club.
Wildsmith brings almost 200 appearances in the second and third tiers of English football, having represented Sheffield Wednesday, Derby County and West Bromwich Albion.
He enjoyed promotion from League One with Derby and was also named the division's Golden Glove winner for the most clean sheets three seasons ago.
His arrival provides added cover for Wycombe following a serious injury to Matt Macey, who is not expected to feature this season after sustaining a cruciate ligament injury during pre-season.
Wildsmith could be in the squad for Saturday's League One meeting with Reading at Adams Park, with first-choice goalkeeper Conor Hazard away on international duty.
Wycombe's Director of Football Strategy and Data Intelligence, Tom Stockwell, said the club were pleased to bring in a goalkeeper with Wildsmith's experience.
“We are happy to welcome Joe Wildsmith to the club. Joe is a goalkeeper with a wealth of experience in League One and Championship football.
“With Conor Hazard away on international duty, and this likely to happen multiple times throughout the season, we thought bringing in a keeper of Joe’s quality gives us the strength in depth to compete across all competitions this season.
“Joe joined the group and was straight into training.
“He is fit and available for selection this weekend against Reading.”
Wildsmith will wear squad number 33 at Wycombe.
His move remains subject to approval from the EFL and FA.
