Additional £25 million allocated for Wycombe Hospital redevelopment
Investment aims to enhance healthcare facilities in Buckinghamshire
he Government has announced an additional £25 million in funding for the redevelopment of Wycombe Hospital, a project already supported by a £20 million investment the previous year. Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust describes this funding as a crucial step in advancing a six-storey development on Queen Alexandra Road.
The new building will host enhanced cardiology, stroke, theatre services, and an expanded endoscopy department, aiming to reduce patient waiting times and improve experiences for both staff and patients. Groundworks are underway, with completion expected by the end of the year, as structural steelwork is poised to be craned into place.
Buckinghamshire Council had approved the redevelopment plans last year, addressing the deteriorating condition of the hospital's current tower block. Despite public interest demonstrated by almost 6,000 petition signatures, the new structure will not include an accident and emergency department. Instead, the focus is on relocating services from the aging tower block.
Raghuv Bhasin, chief executive of the trust, emphasized the importance of this investment from the Department of Health and Social Care, highlighting the transformative potential for healthcare facilities at Wycombe Hospital as construction progresses.
With the latest funding, the trust plans to continue developing the project, seeing it as a once-in-a-generation opportunity to modernize healthcare facilities for Buckinghamshire residents.
