Kamil Mach, a 19-year-old from Holywell Road, Watford, has been fined more than £500 after performing a Nazi salute outside a Borehamwood synagogue.

Mach appeared at St Albans Magistrates’ Court on 16th October, where he was charged with a racially/religiously aggravated Section 5 public order offence.

He was fined £500, with additional payments including a £200 victim surcharge and £85 in court costs.

The incident took place on Croxdale Road on 9th May as synagogue attendees were leaving.

Hertsmere Chief Inspector Ryan Davenport acknowledged the distress caused, stating, “This was a shocking and distressing incident for all who witnessed it and we know that crimes like this affect the wider community too.”

Davenport affirmed that antisemitism will be addressed robustly and assured that measures are in place to protect all communities from hate.

With government funding to tackle antisemitism, a dedicated team in Hertfordshire is working with increased patrols.
