A Watford man has been jailed for over eight years following a violent burglary in Bushey where he assaulted a homeowner.
Kiel St Cyr, 31, of Rickmansworth Road, was sentenced to eight years and nine months imprisonment at St Albans Crown Court on 5th May 2026 after being found guilty of aggravated burglary.
The court heard that on 4th December 2025 at around 4.50am, St Cyr entered a house in Heathfield Road, Bushey, while the occupants were asleep upstairs.
A male resident, aged in his 50s, awoke to the noise and found St Cyr searching through cupboards and holding his rucksacks.
Upon confronting St Cyr and asking him to leave, the intruder picked up a drill and used it to strike the homeowner multiple times on the head, causing him to fall to the floor.
St Cyr subsequently fled the scene but was quickly identified and apprehended by police at his home address later that morning. Investigators recovered several items stolen during the burglary.
Detective Constable Jay Jeffrey from Hertsmere CID commented on the case, highlighting the distressing nature of the crime:
"This was a shocking incident and St Cyr will now rightly face a significant amount of time behind bars.
"St Cyr subjected an innocent family to a frightening ordeal and the memories of that incident will no doubt stay in their mind for a very long time.
"The fact it happened inside their own home makes the crime even more abhorrent. This is the place where they should have felt most safe but St Cyr chose to violate that for his own gain.
"I hope this sentencing provides some comfort that he is facing punishment for what he did.”
