Man charged after crash near Ware leaves 13-year-old critically injured

A 16-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl sustained minor injuries.

A 40-year-old man has been charged following a collision near Ware which left a 13-year-old girl critically injured on Saturday, 31st January 2026.

The incident occurred at around 7.30pm when a silver Nissan Note travelling along Whitehill, in the Dane End area, left the road, went up a verge, and into a field before coming to a stop.

The front seat passenger, a 13-year-old girl, suffered serious head injuries and was taken to hospital, where she remains in critical condition.

Two other passengers in the vehicle, a 16-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl, sustained minor injuries and were also treated in hospital.

Dwane Moody, of Rowney Lane in Dane End, was arrested at the scene. He has now been charged with several offences, including aggravated vehicle taking, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, and using a motor vehicle without third-party insurance.

Moody has also been bailed for other related offences as investigations continue.

He appeared at Hatfield Remand Court this morning and is due at St Albans Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 10th April 2026. Moody has been bailed with strict conditions, including not entering Hertfordshire.

Hertfordshire Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
