The family of a teenager who died in a collision in Royston have paid tribute to him.

Officers were called at around 12.57am on Friday 18 July to reports that a gold BMW 4 Series had come off the A505 and collided with a house in Cromwell Way.

19-year-old Rabi Sheik died at the scene.

Rabi’s family have since paid tribute and said: “On Friday 18 July 2025, our world changed forever when our beloved Rabi Sheik tragically passed away in a fatal car accident. He was just 19 years old, the youngest in our family, the heart of our home, and the light in all our lives.

“Rabi was not just our baby brother. He was everyone’s friend, protector, and source of joy. He carried kindness in every action, compassion in every word, and love in every smile. Rabi had a special gift. He made everyone feel safe, seen, and deeply valued as shared by so many.

“In the days after his passing, our street filled with neighbours, friends, and even strangers who came to share stories of how Rabi had quietly helped them. Whether it was lifting their shopping, fixing their car, helping them find work, or simply offering warmth in a world that can often be cold. He gave, even when he had very little, and never expected anything in return.

“Rabi was known for his humility. He was gentle, affectionate, respectful, and incredibly mindful. He was careful and responsible, always putting others before himself. He would care for the people around him without hesitation and was always checking if others were okay.

“Around 6,000 to 8,000 people came to his funeral prayer, a reflection of the love he gave and the impact he left behind. His loss is not just ours. It is a loss to our entire community, to every life he touched, and to the future he never got to live.

“We will continue to honour Rabi through our prayers, our love, and the truth. We want to give him the same strength and loyalty he showed to us every day of his short but beautiful life. We hope people will join us in remembering him as a rare soul, full of light and goodness.”

Two other males were injured in the collision, with Hertfordshire Police confirming one was in a critical condition and the other was in a serious condition.
