A 22-year-old man from Hertford has been sentenced to nearly five years in prison following a stabbing in Thundridge.

Samuel Clarke, of Wormald Close, was sentenced at St Albans Crown Court on Monday, 9th February.

On the evening of 1st September 2025 police were alerted to a violent altercation between two men at a location in the Woodlands Road area.

One of the men involved was stabbed twice in the abdomen.

Clarke was arrested the same night as part of an investigation led by the East Herts Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

His charges included Section 18 GBH and making threats to kill.

These charges were connected with two separate incidents - the stabbing in Thundridge and an August incident in Hertford where Clarke allegedly threatened another man with a knife.

Initially, Clarke denied the charges but changed his pleas to guilty during a hearing in November.

In court, the judge condemned Clarke's actions, stating, “You acted in the most outrageous manner…you stabbed him twice… he ran away believing he would die.

You should be under no illusions; he easily could have...”

A restraining order has been issued, barring Clarke from any contact with the stabbing victim.

Detective Constable Jordan Critchley, who spearheaded the investigation, emphasized the severe impact of the events, expressing admiration for the victims’ courage.

“Understandably, these were frightening ordeals for both victims, with the judge describing Clarke as ‘dangerous’.

I’d like to commend the victims for their bravery and I hope they can at least take some small comfort from the fact that Clarke is behind bars,” Critchley said.
