A proposed bronze sculpture commemorating a well loved cat in Stevenage has been recommended for approval by the borough council.

Nala, who frequently visited Stevenage Railway Station and gained fame through social media, passed away in December 2025.

The statue could be installed on an elevated area next to the Gordon Craig Theatre and the design features Nala in two-tone bronze on a stainless-steel pedestal, resembling a ticket barrier, with a plaque at the top.

Public support is overwhelmingly positive, with 331 representations in favour, and comments stretching from as far as the US and Australia.

One objection was noted regarding the funding, which is publicly sourced through a fundraiser which raised over £7,000.

The sculpture is crafted at no charge by the artist, with funds solely covering materials.

If approved, the sculpture will be maintained by the council, becoming a signature public space in Stevenage Town Centre.

Planning permission is recommended to be granted, with conditions set by the Planning Committee.
