St Nicholas School in Elstree village, a facility for children aged 4 to 11, is set to close its doors on 31st August 2026 following a decision made by the Cabinet.

This announcement marks a milestone for the community that has rallied around the school throughout the consultation process concerning its future.

The school's headteacher, Mrs Johnston-Grant, expressed gratitude towards the parents, staff, governors, local councils, and wider community for their unwavering support since the process began in September 2025.

She acknowledged the dedication and resilience shown by families and staff during a period marked by uncertainty and emotional challenges.

"As we approach half term, I hope it offers everyone a chance to pause, reflect, and find some breathing space after such a challenging period," Mrs Johnston-Grant said. "While difficult changes lie ahead, we will continue to move forward together with strength, dignity, and care, supporting the children who remain with us until the very end of our journey as a school community."

With the closure date set, the focus will be on navigating the challenges ahead while providing continued support to the remaining students and their families. The community is encouraged to maintain its spirit of compassion and resilience throughout this transition.

Mrs Johnston-Grant signed off her message with appreciation for the ongoing commitment to the welfare of the school community: "Thank you all for your compassion, resilience, and continued support."
