Person dies and firefighters hospitalised after blaze at house in Bushey Heath

The cause of the fire is under investigation

A person has died and two firefighters needed hospital treatment after a blaze at a house in Bushey Heath.

The fire started last night at 6.31pm in Hartsbourne Close.

The building was severely affected by the blaze, and firefighters entered it wearing breathing apparatus to conduct a search after reports indicated one person was missing.

Sadly, that person died at the scene.

Assistant Chief Fire Officer Andy Hall said, “Our thoughts and sincere condolences are with their family, friends, and loved ones at this very difficult time.”

At the height of the incident there were 10 appliances, including two from London Fire Brigade, a water bowser form Bedford Fire Service, Command Support Unit and an Aerial Ladder Platform

Two firefighters required hospital assessment but have since been released.

Their dedication and professionalism were commended by Assistant Chief Fire Officer Andy Hall.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

Fire crews have been carrying out community engagement and reassurance visits, including home safety visits, in the local area today.
