Police appeal after woman escapes from attempted assault
Anyone with information is being asked to contact the police
Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman in her 20s escaped following a man trying to pull her into bushes yesterday morning.
It happened on Walkern Road around 2:45am - she got away with scratches and went for help.
Police think the man might have had a knife.
Detective Sergeant Jordan Carter, from the Criminal Investigation Department, said: “This was understandably very distressing for the woman involved and we are supporting her throughout this investigation.
“I’d like to reassure the public that we take reports of this nature extremely seriously and we are doing all we can to trace the suspect. Officers are carrying out enquiries in the area today and there will be extra high-visibility patrols to provide reassurance and speak with anyone who has concerns.
“We are still in the early stages of our investigation and the suspect has been described as approximately 6ft tall and of slim build. As enquiries progress and we establish further details, we will share updates in due course.
“If you were in the area at the time and noticed anything suspicious, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. If you were driving along Walkern Road around the time of the incident, please check your dash cam footage as you may have captured something that could assist our investigation. No matter how small it may seem, any information could be important.”
