Plans unveiled for new multi-million spinal rehabilitation hospital in Stoke Mandeville
The 52-bed facility will be open to both NHS and private patients
A new specialist rehabilitation hospital for spinal and neurological care is set to be built in Stoke Mandeville.
The 52-bed, multi-million-pound facility will treat around 250 patients a year and is due to open in summer 2027.
Active Neuro Stoke Mandeville Private Rehabilitation Hospital will be located next to Stoke Mandeville’s National Spinal Injuries Centre.
It promises timely access to specialist rehabilitation services and will be built on existing land at Stoke Mandeville Stadium, owned by WheelPower.
The creation of the new hospital is expected to generate numerous skilled jobs in clinical, therapeutic, nursing, operational, and support roles while boosting local community investment.
Active Care Group say the facility will incorporate expert multidisciplinary care, advanced technology, and high-quality therapeutic spaces to set a new benchmark in patient care.
Features will include:
• State-of-the-art rehabilitation environments with robotic gait and arm training, virtual-reality balance systems, augmented-reality therapy, and neuromuscular stimulation.
• High-quality inpatient and day therapy areas for intensive multidisciplinary rehabilitation.
• Two AI-integrated trial and step-down flats for patients to practice daily activities before returning home.
• A dedicated ventilated high-dependency unit.
• A specialist hydrotherapy pool.
• Purpose-built communal and therapeutic spaces, including a cinema room and outdoor wellbeing areas.
• Family accommodation and an AI learning, education, and conference hub.
