The recent fire at Pink Punters nightclub in Milton Keynes has been deemed accidental following an investigation.

According to Buckinghamshire Fire & Rescue Service and Thames Valley Police, they worked together to rule out any third-party involvement after the incident occurred on 26th April.

They also stated that a 51-year-old man from Milton Keynes previously arrested on suspicion of arson has been cleared of any wrongdoing.

Chief Superintendent Emma Baillie of Milton Keynes said, “We understand that an incident like this can be concerning for the local community, but I want to reassure people that following a thorough joint investigation with BFRS, we have found no evidence of any criminality.”

Baillie praised the staff at Pink Punters for their prompt and effective response during the incident.

Deputy Chief Fire Officer Simon Tuffley of BFRS remarked on the importance of swift evacuation and fire safety protocols, stating, “Thanks to the swift actions of the site staff and firefighters, everyone was able to leave the building safely, and the fire was prevented from spreading to other buildings.”

Frank McMahon, the owner of Pink Punters, expressed relief, saying, “We are profoundly relieved to know that this was not arson, not a deliberate attack, and not a hate crime.”

McMahon highlighted the nightclub's commitment to safety measures and praised his team for ensuring no injuries occurred despite the loss of the building.

The fire has been separated from another incident at St Martin’s Church in Watling Street, still under investigation.

Authorities continue to appeal for witnesses or anyone with information related to the fire to contact Thames Valley Police.

Community Reactions

Speaking to Greatest Hits Radio earlier this week, Frank McMahon, owner of Pink Punters, emphasised that while the building was lost, he was pleased nobody was hurt.

He said, “Worldwide, nightclub fires have too often resulted in a devastating human toll. We can all be profoundly thankful that this was not the case here.”

Local residents and visitors also shared their thoughts with us, on the fire's impact.

Janet, a regular attendee, visited the site and expressed gratitude that safety procedures ensured everyone was unharmed.

She said, “It is so iconic and important for the local community, it’s so safe and it’s such a lovely place, even the security were so friendly.”
