A newborn bat, left orphaned, has become a focus of dedicated care at a Buckinghamshire wildlife hospital.

The small bat, known as a pup, is currently being hand-fed by nurses at Tiggywinkles Wildlife Hospital in Aylesbury.

The hospital say caring and feeding a baby bat requires precision and care, with short, frequent feeds carefully measured to ensure proper nourishment.

Each pup is regularly weighed and monitored to track its progress and development.

Staff are providing round-the-clock care to give the pup the best chance of growing strong enough for eventual release into the wild.

In England, there are 18 different species of bats, including the common pipistrelle and the brown long-eared bat. They are often found in woodlands, parks, and gardens, resting in trees, caves, and buildings.

Many bat species in England are protected under conservation laws due to their declining populations.
