Olympic twins overwhelmed by support since ‘devastating’ fire at Aylesbury gym

Olympic medallists Jennifer and Jessica Gadirova say they’ve been overwhelmed by the support they’ve received after a fire destroyed their home gym in Aylesbury.
The blaze broke out at Lynx Gym on Rabans Close in Aylesbury last week, where seven crews attended from Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue service.
The Gadirova twins who trained at the venue say it was “devastating” and “heartbreaking” to see.
Jessica Gardirova said: “We didn't really believe it at first because you don't really hear fires that often. So, we just couldn't picture it.
“So, later in the day, we then visited the gym and that's when it really hit us the most. We were just so devastated. Our hearts were broken, literally shattered. There were so many tears, and we just couldn't hold it in.”
Every week, over 1,000 children and families walk through the doors at Lynx Gym.
Jennifer said: “It's not even just impacted us, it's the community.
“We all have to adapt to the impact it's had on all of us, even our coaches and how it's affected them, their wages and how they continue coaching us as athletes.”
More than £26,000 has been raised so far through a GoFundMe page to help Lynx Gym get back on its feet.
The twins say it’s been “incredible” to see how many people have come together to help support the venue.
Jessica said: “We didn't realise how much support we have and it's been so lovely to see how many people reach out, not just Aylesbury, not just the UK, but globally.
“People have shared the club's posts and our posts, and doing everything they can to support us worldwide.”
Jenniffer added: “It's actually so heartwarming to see how much support this has reached. We honestly are so grateful, and we just feel so loved and supported.
“This community is just so strong, and we are just, again, so grateful and thankful, just can't thank everyone enough.”
