Around 1,000 jobs are set to go at Ocado as the retail technology firm looks to cut costs by about £150 million in a major restructure.

The company says around 5% of its global workforce will be affected, with around two‑thirds of the roles going in the UK.

Most of the UK cuts are expected at its head office in Hatfield, Hertfordshire.

Ocado, which runs robotic warehouses for supermarket chains, plans to scale back research and development, aiming to save around £150 million in technology and support costs in 2026.

It will also overhaul its commercial, support and R&D operations, merging Ocado Solutions and Ocado Intelligent Automation into a single division.

Chief executive Tim Steiner said the changes mean “a significant number of roles will no longer be required” and thanked affected staff for their “talent and hard work”, adding that the company will support those impacted through the process.
