Plans to replace a “deteriorating” village hall in Jordans, where Ozzy Osbourne once lived, have been given the go-ahead.

Jordans Village Hall Trust has secured planning permission to demolish the existing hall on Green West Road and replace it with a new building.

The village of Jordans was founded by a settlement of Quakers towards the end of the First World War, and the hall was built to serve the growing community, opening in October 1919.

The existing hall was originally intended as a temporary structure but has since been significantly altered. Planning documents describe it as an important community facility but acknowledge that it is now in poor condition.

The proposed new hall will be built on the site of the existing building. It said in the application: “The existing hall has been frequently altered and extended to meet the village’s expansion and evolving requirements.

“While this approach has been successful in the short term, a point has been reached where the building is not fit for purpose and cannot be viably developed or altered to meet the growing needs of the current users.

“Though frequently extended , the current building does not provide the space required for all its users, particularly storage, much of which is currently provided ad hoc by sheds and garden storage boxes dotted around the site.”

The trust said continuing maintenance issues, outdated building services, an energy-inefficient building and the inability to attract new users were becoming a “growing financial concern”.

It said; “To answer these myriad problems and provide a long-term solution, the Trust proposes to replace the existing hall with a new building, that provides the facilities required for current users and presents an attractive offering for new users.”

The new hall has been designed to reflect the form and materials of the existing building while reducing its visual impact. The tallest part of the structure will sit at the centre of the site, with the north gable set back from the footpath.

Storage and ancillary facilities will be housed in two single-storey wings, while a historic fire surround from the existing hall will be retained and incorporated into the new entrance foyer.

Concerns were raised during consultation, with Chalfont St Giles Parish Council citing a lack of designated disabled parking bays and the absence of a turning circle to allow vehicles to drop off disabled users at the venue.

The trust said it had raised about £80,000 in donations this year, with a further £25,000 pledged, and £22,000 from fundraising events.

Overall funding for the new hall now stands at about £700,000, with further grant applications planned once planning permission and a lease are finalised.

The late Ozzy Osbourne lived in the Buckinghamshire village and was buried at his family estate there following his death in July 2025.

Born and raised in Aston, Birmingham, Ozzy achieved international fame as the lead singer of Black Sabbath and later in his solo career, selling over 100 million records worldwide.

Last July, Ozzy was also granted the Freedom of the City of Birmingham alongside Black Sabbath’s original band members as part of their farewell "Back to the Beginning" concert.
