David Lewis, 38, of Fennycroft Road, Hemel Hempstead, appeared at Luton Crown Court on Thursday 8 January, where he admitted causing the death of 48-year-old Jack Oliver Frogell.

Mr Frogell was known to his friends and family as Olly.

The incident occurred during a private charity event at Hemel Hempstead Town Football Club in the early hours of Saturday 25 October 2025. Following the assault, Olly was taken to hospital, where he later died on Tuesday 4 November 2025.

After a public witness appeal, Lewis was arrested the day after the assault.

Detective Inspector Caeva Taylor, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, said:

“David Lewis’s behaviour could not have been further from the spirit of a charity event. He took Olly’s life and shattered many more lives in doing so."

"My thoughts are with Olly’s family and friends as they continue coming to terms with the shock of his death.”

Lewis has been released on bail and is due to be sentenced on Wednesday 25 March.

Olly’s family have requested that their privacy is respected during this difficult time.
