Man from Sandy jailed for 18 years for rape and abuse spanning several years

A 35-year-old man from Sandy has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for rape and assault against a woman over years of sustained abuse.
Sean Wilcox pleaded guilty to two counts of rape and two counts of actual bodily harm at Aylesbury Crown Court.
A separate rape charge was also brought against Wilcox following an investigation by Thames Valley Police.
His victim, who bravely came forward to report the abuse, shared the enduring impact of the trauma she suffered in a victim impact statement.
She expressed, “Simply being awake felt like a nightmare. I was so ashamed. I was his victim, but I didn’t really know it. I just knew shame and humiliation. The mental scars live with me all day, every day.”
Bedfordshire Police, through their Rape and Serious Sexual Offences team, launched the investigation leading to Wilcox’s arrest.
Sergeant Sabrina D’Amelio commended the victim's bravery in supporting the investigation.
“The courage shown by the victim in coming forward and supporting this investigation has been immense, and we hope this sentence provides her with some measure of justice,” she said.
Sergeant D’Amelio emphasised the force's commitment to pursuing offenders, stating, “There is no excuse for abuse, coercive behaviour or sexual violence, and those responsible should expect to face the full consequences of their actions.”
