Man jailed for historic child sexual abuse offences

A man has been jailed for ten years for a campaign of child sexual abuse in Welwyn Garden City.
Fifty-two-year-old Haji Hussain Mohammed abused a girl under thirteen, but when she first reported it in 2003, the Crown Prosecution Service took no action.
The case was only reopened after a review two years ago.
Speaking in front of the busy court ahead of sentencing today she said: “The abuse has affected every stage of my life. It has shaped my education, my relationships, my mental health, my self-worth, my career and my ability to trust other people.
“The years I spent fighting to be believed caused repeated breakdowns, long periods of depression and a profound loss of identity. I will never know who I could have become had this not happened to me.
“The childhood I should have had, and the person I might have become, were taken from me. That loss is something I will carry with me for the rest of my life.”
