Bryan Field, aged 64, of Albion Road, Great Yarmouth, appeared at Peterborough Crown Court yesterday (Monday 14 July) for sentencing having been found guilty following a two-week trial in March.

As well as the jail term, Field was also issued with indefinite restraining orders not to contact the victims.

The court heard how on Sunday 11 February 2024, Field attended Shangri-La Farm in Todds Green looking for his estranged wife. Her car was present, so assuming she was inside, he entered the office of a business where she worked armed with a large kitchen knife concealed in a black plastic bag.

She was not inside, however two other people were, and they were attacked.

A man was stabbed in the thigh, an injury which narrowly missed his femoral artery, and a failed attempt was made to also stab him in the neck. Field then stabbed a woman in the arm with such force that the blade of the knife broke off. Both the man and woman required surgery for their injuries. Officers were called and Field was stopped in a car near Luton shortly after the incident, he was arrested and later charged.

At court he was sentenced to 26 years imprisonment for attempted murder of the man, six years imprisonment for grievous bodily harm against the woman, and 20 months imprisonment for possession of a bladed article. Detective Sergeant Ian Smith, from the North Herts Local Crime Unit, said: “We welcome this significant sentence for Field who has been proven to be a dangerous individual.

“Two innocent members of the public were attacked during this appalling incident which saw Field display extreme acts of violence.

“We thank them both for their support and bravery during this investigation.

“I also thank the North Herts and Stevenage Local Crime Unit teams as this conviction and sentence is testament to their hard work and dedication to this investigation, as well as our Domestic Abuse Investigation and Safeguarding Unit for their support and assistance.

“Knife crime and violence is not welcome in Hertfordshire, and we will do all we can to bring offenders to justice.” Hear all the latest news from across the UK on the hour, every hour, on Greatest Hits Radio on DAB, smartspeaker, at greatesthitsradio.co.uk, and on the Rayo app.
