A man has been jailed for a year after burgling a home in Borehamwood.

40-year-old Edvinas Leleva, of no fixed address, appeared at Stevenage Magistrates' Court on Thursday 3rd September, where he pleaded guilty to burglary.

Leleva broke into a home in Ripon Way between 26th March and 7th April, while the victim, who was known to him, was on holiday.

He forced his way in through a window and stole jewellery, headphones and cash.

Investigator Chloe Harding, from Hertfordshire Police's Criminal Investigation Department, said: "Leleva paid zero regard to his victim, taking advantage of them being on holiday. It is right that he will now face consequences for this.

"Burglary has a huge impact on victims and we will always do everything we can to find offenders.

"Leleva was quickly identified as a suspect and multiple enquiries were undertaken to trace him. He was arrested after being spotted by a PCSO in Shenley Road. I hope this example of teamwork across the constabulary is reassuring. We are all committed to keeping the public safe from criminals."
