Man in his 80s arrested on suspicion of murdering elderly man in Aylesbury

A murder investigation has been launched by Thames Valley Police’s Major Crime Unit following an incident in Aylesbury yesterday (Friday January 3).

Officers were called by South Central Ambulance Service to a block of flats on Silverdale Close in Aylesbury around 4.20pm, who were treating a man aged in his seventies, found with serious injuries.

The victim sadly died at the scene.

Formal identification and other coronial processes will be undertaken in due course, and the man’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

An 80-year-old man from Aylesbury has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody at this time.

Senior investigating officer Detective Inspector Nick Hind, of the Major Crime Unit, said: “Firstly, I would like to wish my condolences to the family of the man who sadly died following this incident.

“We have launched a murder investigation and I recognise the concern this will cause in the local community. However, we have made an arrest and are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident and two parties are known to each other.

“Extensive enquiries are ongoing into this incident and a scene will remain on for some time while our investigation is ongoing, we would apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused.

“We are confident that there is no wider risk to the community at this time, and I would urge anybody who has any concerns to please speak to any of our officers at the scene.
