A cyclist in his fifties has died after being involved in a collision with a car in Aylesbury.

The incident happened yesterday morning (6th October) around 8.10am on Aston Abbotts Road, located between the villages of Weedon and Aston Abbotts.

Thames Valley Police reported that the driver of the red Seat involved in the collision stopped at the scene to assist with the investigation.

A separate vehicle, a black Ford Puma, was driven by a 40-year-old man from Aylesbury, who was subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and released on bail.

Investigating Detective Sergeant Oliver Cahill-Smith from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit has urged witnesses to come forward: “We are carrying out a thorough investigation to establish exactly what happened in the moments leading up to the collision and are appealing to anybody who may have witnessed the incident, or the circumstances immediately beforehand, to come forward.

“We are particularly keen to speak to a driver of another black car that may have been overtaken prior to the incident, and could be an important witness, as they would have been on the Aston Abbotts Road, heading towards Weedon around the same time.

“I would also ask anyone who was driving in the area at the time and may have dash-cam footage, but has not yet spoken to police, to please get in touch as even the smallest detail could assist our enquiries."
