Man dies in suspected explosion in Bedford

A man has died and three others have been hospitalised following a suspected explosion at an industrial unit in Bedford.

Bedfordshire Police were called out to Brunel Road shortly before 4pm on Thursday (23 July).

Roads in the area, which were temporarily closed to ensure public safety, have now been reopened.

The initial cordon set up at the scene has also been removed.

Police will continue to be present until the investigation is handed over to the Health and Safety Executive.

The public is asked to respect the privacy of those affected and to avoid speculation about the incident.
