A man has been convicted after quick-thinking members of the public intervened when they witnessed a teenage girl being sexually harassed in Watford.

66-year-old Kamikar Brar appeared at St Albans Magistrates’ Court where he pleaded guilty to one count of engaging in sexual communication with a child.

The court heard that on Saturday (3 May), Brar approached two teenage girls on a stairwell in the Harlequin shopping centre and asked where the bathroom was. Brar, who was intoxicated at the time, began asking inappropriate questions and made sexual comments towards one of the girls.

A passer-by noticed the girls’ discomfort and asked if Brar was bothering them. After being told he was, the member of the public asked Brar to leave, which he did initially, but he returned shortly after. A second member of the public witnessed Brar continuing to harass the teenagers and accompanied them to find a security officer. Brar followed the group, but police were called and arrived quickly to arrest him at the scene.

Following his hearing at court on Friday (3 October), Brar was released on bail with strict conditions banning him from entering Watford for any reason.

His sentencing has been scheduled for Thursday (13 November).
