Man charged with arson after fire in Northaw

Police have charged a man in connection with an arson in Northaw.

At around 1.20am of Monday 13 October, officers were called to Coopers Lane Road following reports that three parked vehicles were alight. Damage was also caused to the front door of a property.

The fire was brought under control with help from the fire service, and no injuries were reported.

Abdul Miah, aged 32 and of Leyton Road, London, has been charged with arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered, and possessing an offensive weapon.

He appeared at Hatfield Magistrates’ Court today (Thursday 23 October) where he was remanded into custody. He is next due at St Albans Crown Court on Thursday 20 November.

Detective Inspector Michael Ball, who is investigating, said: “I’d like to thank the team’s diligence and hard work in securing a charging decision.

“The fire was brought under control and thankfully no injuries were reported.

“The case will now progress through the courts.”
