A man has been charged and remanded in custody after a police officer was assaulted on duty.
Tyler McQuarrie, aged 25, of Baxter Road in Watford, has been charged with:
• Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH) Section 18
• Possession of a controlled drug of class B (cannabis)
McQuarrie appeared at Luton Remand Court today (Friday 24 October) and was remanded into custody ahead of his next scheduled court appearance on Tuesday 25 November.
The charges come after a Police Constable carried out a routine traffic stop on Hornhill Road, Maple Cross, on Tuesday 21 October.
The male officer, who was single crewed, stopped a car and detained the two occupants for a Section 23 search.
During the interaction, he was punched in the face and x-rays later showed that he had suffered a broken jaw, eye socket and cheekbone.
Detective Inspector Amy Tarver, who leads the Three Rivers Criminal Investigation Department, said: “Firstly, our thoughts remain with our colleague who is recovering following this assault. We are pleased to have secured charges as part of our investigation, and we now await the outcome of the hearing scheduled for next month.”
