A man has been arrested after reports of a ram-raid followed by a car crash in Hook.

Police say a black Land Rover Discovery was used to smash the front window of One Stop on Station Road at 12.30am on 15th December.

Cigarettes were stolen from inside the store before a white BMW 3 Series was involved in a single-car accident at a roundabout on Griffin Way South and Bartley Way.

Officers found a large white bag containing cigarettes, a crowbar, and two fire extinguishers inside the BMW. A man was arrested at the scene.

Both cars involved have been seized by the police.

A 51-year-old from Bourne End, Buckinghamshire, is being held on suspicion of the following offences:

  • Burglary other than dwelling with intent to steal
  • Theft of a motor vehicle
  • Dangerous driving
  • Failing to stop for police or a traffic warden

The man remains in custody while investigations continue.
