M1 northbound closed in Bedfordshire after overturned HGV

The M1 northbound in Bedfordshire has 3 lanes (of 4) closed between J10 Pepperstock Interchange (Luton (S), Luton Airport A1081) and J11 Leagrave Interchange (Luton, Dunstable A505).

This is due to a overturned Heavy Goods Vehicle and resultant 350 litre diesel spillage.

National Highways are on scene along with specialist recovery and maintenance contractors.

Once the Heavy Goods Vehicle is righted and recovered a full resurfacing of the 3 lanes will be required. Therefore the lanes will remain closed for a significant amount of time, potentially for the remainder of today.

This incident and the lane closures are causing delays of 90 mins above normal journey time and 9 miles of congestion.
