Luton man jailed for stabbing and shooting friend
Callun Bermingham carried out a “ferocious and sustained” attack

A Luton man has been jailed for 11-and-a-half years after being convicted of stabbing and shooting a friend in a fight.
Callun Bermingham, 37, got into the fight on the morning of 25 March last year.
Luton Crown Court heard that he and the victim were friends who had been out for the night consuming drink and drugs before returning to a house in Repton Close, Luton.
The court was told that Bermingham, formerly of Belmont Road, Luton, carried out a “ferocious and sustained” attack, stabbing the victim multiple times with a kitchen knife and shooting him in the back before driving off in his Jaguar car.
The victim needed hospital treatment for life-threatening injuries but was later released.
Bedfordshire Police officers spotted Bermingham’s car and began a pursuit. Bermingham drove the wrong way down a one-way street and crashed into three cars before coming to a stop, where he was arrested by specialist armed response officers.
Inside the vehicle, police found vodka and a firearm.
On May 5 at Luton Crown Court, Bermingham pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent, having previously admitted to possession of a firearm and dangerous driving.
The judge, describing him as a dangerous offender, sentenced him to a total of 11-and-a-half years in prison and three years on extended licence.
After serving his sentence he will spend a further three years on licence.
Detective Inspector Verity McCann, from Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, said: “Bermingham is a very dangerous man and it is good that he will now face a substantial period behind bars.
“This was an appalling attack and could easily have proved fatal.
“There is no place for this sort of violence, and I congratulate the teams who managed to detain Bermingham so quickly and bring him to the justice he deserves.”
