A man from Hertfordshire has died after getting into trouble while swimming at Spit Beach, in Par, on Sunday 20 July.

Devon and Cornwall Police said they were called by HM Coastguard at 2.15pm after the man was found unresponsive in the sea.

The Coastguard helicopter recovered him from the water.

Ambulance crews and the RNLI also attended the scene.

The man, in his 50s, was treated at the beach but was pronounced dead despite emergency services’ efforts.

A police spokesperson said, “The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
